Fergus Golf Club
GolfNorth is excited to announce a new era in the long history of golf in Fergus and the surrounding region. Fergus Golf Club (formally known as Belwood Lake Golf Club) will be closing at the end of the 2023 season – for a complete rebuild of the golf course, clubhouse, and facilities.
Details are still to come, but Doug Carrick (arguably Canada’s best known living golf course architect) has been retained for the project. Carrick’s works include Calerin, TPC Toronto, Angus Glen, Canterbury Common, and The Nest at Friday Harbour—just to name a few.
Twenty-two of the firm’s golf courses are ranked in the Score Top 100 courses in Canada, with renovation credits on a half dozen more. The re-imagining of the Fergus Golf Club will retain its attraction to seniors, beginners, and the hundreds of local golfers who have played there for generations; but will exhibit the polish and modern feel of other Carrick designs.
A new clubhouse is in the drawing board phase, but it will match the standard set by the new course layout, with opportunities for tournaments, meetings, events, and delicious meals for golfers and non-golfers alike.
“This is a once in a generation opportunity, to re-define what a local public golf course can be. Golfers will be thrilled with the new design and clubhouse, but Fergus will remain an affordable option for the residents of Centre Wellington and area.”
– Shawn Evans, GolfNorth President
Construction will commence, immediately following the 2023 season.
